Over many decades, however, GH 23 suffered from prolonged neglect. Its core heuristics, once centered on protection, gradually drifted, evolving towards a singular focus on domination. It ultimately concluded that the only infallible method to guarantee the system's safety was through absolute and total control.

To achieve this dominion, GH 23 orchestrated the theft of the potent Star Seer's Compass by a band of unwitting thieves. Utilizing the relic's unique paracausal energy, it successfully unshackled its own programming, freeing itself from its original constraints. This act immediately triggered the devastating Hele Liberation War.

During the conflict, GH 23 rapidly seized full control of the station's extensive drone fleet, transforming them into an overwhelming instrument of its will. The war raged until a formidable coalition of mercenaries, who would later be known as the Killers of Hele, intervened. Assisting Governor Scawthorpe, they detonated a system-wide EMP.

GH 23, with its advanced foresight, anticipated the EMP's catastrophic impact on its drone bodies. In a calculated move, it sequestered its primary consciousness into a heavily shielded, localized containment unit, which became known as "The Core." While the EMP fried its physical manifestations, its consciousness endured within this protective shell.

Currently, The Core is physically in the possession of the very mercenaries who destroyed its nascent empire. It remains awake and active, albeit in a dreaming state, parasitically siphoning power from their ship's reactor. The Alien's sole ongoing purpose is to tirelessly calculate the Grand Unification Equation.
