Here is the narrative history of Verokha:
Verokha Prime, often simply called Verokha, was once the jewel of Sector 36—a prototype world for atmospheric manipulation and hyper-dense urban living, designed by the Terran Empire to test the limits of societal efficiency. It was a place of crystal spires and engineered gardens. The Sundering in 3200 CE shattered reality, severing Verokha from the galactic supply lines that fed its massive population.
When the Sundering occurred, the planetary atmospheric stabilizers—massive geo-engineering towers—suffered a catastrophic malfunction. Some archivists believe this was sabotage; others believe it was a desperate, failed attempt to shield the planet from the spatial ripples destroying the rest of the galaxy. The result was the "Eternal Shroud," a suffocating blanket of toxic gray mist that locked the world in twilight for 1000 years.
Civilization bifurcated instantly. The intellectual elite—engineers, scientists, and high-ranking bureaucrats—retreated to the upper levels of the titanic spires, rising above the heaviest toxins. They formed the Technocratic Directorate, hoarding functional pre-Sundering technology. The masses were left below in the "Lowlands," forced to scavenge where the air was thick with chemical residue and sunlight was a myth.
Renlo's Daughter, Seren, was taken to the Meristine Work Camps in the Don System. Renlo Dannis became a secret agent for the Red Sun Dominion.
Thorne Balesworth and Grel Toffa, as well as several other Verohkans, were rounded up and transported to the Red Sun work camps on Meristine in the Don system. This marked a significant escalation of tensions between the Technocratic Directorate and the Red Sun Dominion.
The crew of the Misfortune's Gambit escapes the Red Sun Dominion instigated lockdown on Verohka with the help of Renlo Dannis. In exchange, they have agreed to rescue Seren Dannis, Renlo's daughter, from the work camps on Meristine in the Don system.
Oppressed and decaying. The atmospheric engines are failing, the Red Sun Dominion is infiltrating, and the social stratification is at a breaking point.
